The 5235 IP Phone combines the familiarity and ease-of-use of traditional business communications functionality with powerful new capabilities that capitalize on the values introduced by voice and data convergence at the desktop. Programming and using the 5235 IP Phone is simple thanks to the easy-to-follow screens. And because it is part of an IP network, the 5235 IP Phone can provide not only telephony services, but data services, too—including up-to-the-minute information from the Internet through XML-based applications. (XML Toolkit support will be available in Release 1.1 of the 5235 IP Phone.)

People Screen

The People shutter is your personal address book. It displays Name and Number, and when a contact is selected, you also have the option to dial that contact directly. Contacts can be added manually or by using the Copy option in both Visual Voice Mail and Call History Logs, when Calling Line ID is presented. Alpha tabs along the side allow users to skip ahead and back, touch once for first letter, twice for second letter and three times for third. 6 Names can be viewed at a time, with the option to scroll to the next page if required. Up to 50 personal contacts can be stored in the 5235 IP Phone People shutter.

Messages Screens

You can use the Messages shutter to access your voice mailbox. Up to 50 Visual Voice Mails can be stored on your 5235 IP Phone. (Note: the total number is a 3300 ICP System Software Class of Service option.) Messages can be sorted by All, Urgent, New, Saved, or Recorded.

Once a message is selected, users are presented with the standard voicemail controls such as Play, Stop, Pause, Skip Forward, Skip Back, etc. When Calling Line ID is presented in Visual Voice Mail, callers can be easily added to your People Directory.

History Screens

The History shutter shows a complete log of all your incoming and outgoing calls. Calls can be sorted by All, Missed, Made or Answered. When a call is selected, more details about the call are presented on another screen. From that screen, you can copy the contact information to your People directory, or you can dial that person directly (if calling Line ID is presented). Up to 50 Call Entries in total are available in History.

Settings Screens

The Settings shutter is used to customize your phone profile and set your communications preferences. Settings is similar to the "Superkey" functionality on the 5207 / 5215 and 5220 IP Phones but contains many more options for programming features, keys, call forwarding profiles, and customizing your display. There are up to 16 Settings available on the 5235 IP Phone. For detailed information on all Settings available, please refer to the 5235 IP Phone User Guide.

Applications Screens

The Applications shutter is used to access and launch Applications such as Conference Controller and Web Browser sessions. This screen will also be used to access custom applications that can be created using the XML Toolkit that will be available with the next release of the 5235 IP Phone.

Conferencing

The Conference Controller application located on the 5235 IP Phone replaces the requirement for the Conference Unit Side Control to control the Conference Unit. Softkey Controls include Turning On the Conference Saucer, Volume Up and Down, and Presentation Mode that allows the Conference Microphone to be focused on one speaker only.

Modules Support:

Mitel 5310 IP Conference Module fits into the module compartment on the back of the 5235 IP Phone and connects to Mitel 5310 IP Conference Unit saucer. Using the "Conference Controller" Application (which can be found under the Applications Tab) users can access the audio conference for instant superior quality voice conferencing in offices and meeting rooms. And because the 5235 IP Phone has been designed to pass Ethernet Power from the phone through to the Conference Module, the need for 24VDC Power Adapters to run the IP Conference Unit has been eliminated!

5235 IP Phone Integrates with Mitel IP PKM12 and IP PKM48 for easy addition of quick access function keys. Two 48 Button IP PKMs can be supported on the 5235 IP Phone on the 3300 ICP.

Mitel Line Interface Module plugs into the back of the 5235 IP Phone to allow analog line connectivity, in order to make & receive calls, failover support, and emergency dialing.

 Dual Mode Ready

The new 5235 IP Phone supports both Mitel Call Control (MiNET) and SIP protocols. The 5235 IP Phone is dual mode "ready" in that in has the capability to boot up in SIP mode. However, the SIP software for the 5235 IP Phone will only be available in calendar Q3 2005. The SIP software will be available via a software upgrade. Details on 5235 IP Phone SIP functionality will be published in a Product Bulletin that will be coming out later in the fall 2005.
